Huge thanks to Les McKeown for auctioning off his favourite red stage jacket on ebay to raise funds which went to Broomhouse School's fundraising project, The Big Project.

The £800 raised both by auctioning off the jacket, a transatlantic phonecall  and kind donations from Les' fans on both sides of the Atlantic will benefit many of the children at Broomhouse Primary, where Les himself went to school in the 1960s.

Caroline McFarlan

In 1990, with three children aged 3, 4 and 8, Caroline McFarlan sat down and wondered what to do with her life. Married to TV presenter Bill, the couple gave a lot of their free time to various charities.

Caroline McFarlan

"I knew life was good, but could be better" she said "We dreamt up the idea of the Broadcasting Business Balls. Bill and I were always being asked to go along to charity evenings. I decided that we should initiate our own events and "do our bit" to put something back into society. I felt blessed with three healthy children. Our focus was complete. We would raise money for those children less fortunate than our three. The first year we raised money for Cot Death, then Bone Marrow Disease, Child Abuse, Pain Relief in Kids Hospitals, ChildLine ... anything that relieved the suffering of kids.

We called on our friends and colleagues in the media and show business to help and support our causes. They happily obliged and our coffers grew."

In 1996, Caroline joined ChildLine Scotland as a volunteer counsellor. "That taught me things I had hardly known existed in earlier years. The dark side of life. The despair and suffering out there was horrendous"

She had been encouraged to join by ChildLine Founder Esther Rantzen, whom Caroline still keeps in touch with. "She is an incredible lady. Inspirational!"

The last Broadcasting Business Ball was in aid of ChildLine Scotland.
Caroline and husband Bill

Caroline took time out as a counsellor as her children started their University and Higher Education exams. " I still miss the people there" she says of ChildLine. "Some of my closest friends are ChildLine colleagues. I intend to go back one day, when life becomes a bit less busy. It's one of those places you can always return to ... sadly, the bullying and abuse will still be there ... which is why ChildLine is such a vital helpline for kids"

Caroline was surfing the Internet last April when she noticed the KidsCharities logo. "It sounded perfect. "The broad-reaching aspect really appealed to me. KidsCharities with Sue Cassidy at the helm have built up an amazing facility for young people from all around the world. I have the utmost respect for her as founder of KidsCharities.org and also as a mother ... it's hard to juggle family life and run a charity - and make a success of both. Sue has done just that.... and helped thousands of other children around the world as well."

With the KidsCharities Tree of Life now taking root in the UK and going under the name of KidsCharities UK, we aim to spread into other continents. We now have KidsCharities teams based on either side of the Atlantic who work well together towards our common goal. Thanks especially to Ashley Walls, Keith Bryan and Keith Girdwood who are keeping the website up-to-date.

You will soon be able to shop-to-support KidsCharities causes too. Please bookmark our website for upcoming events and new ways of supporting those less-fortunate ... but incredibly worthy ... children who rely on us to make their world a little brighter.
Thankyou!
