HEROES
Hero ..." ...a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities"
We have our fair share of heroes at KidsCharities. Indeed every time someone says "yes", they are a hero to us! KidsCharities only exists because of them.
Thankyou to all of you who have said "yes" to us ... you help brighten the lives of kids ... and that's special!
Once in a while, however, someone stands out for an act of kindness, generosity and general decency that goes beyond the bounds of expectation. Someone who goes the extra mile to help .. this is the only way we can think of thanking you!
That's why we have decided to have our own "Hero of the Moment". It gives us a platform to say "Thanks. We could only have done it because of your help".
HERO OF THE MOMENT - September - November 2004
Our new hero cuts an impressive figure in Glasgow's nightlife. She is respectedby internationally acclaimed musicians and artistes alike, and has been fondly nicknamedby the locals as "Armadillo".
The Clyde Auditorium became known as the Armadillo because of its resemblence tothe hard-shelled mammal. But management of the Auditorium...venue of last February's Blast from the Past....clearly have a soft centre.
They've decided that KidsCharities UK are to be their chosen charity next year, which means that the venue will be donated to us free-of-charge for our Blast From The Past 2 Concert on 19th March 2005.
We are thrilled to have been chosen from a list of worthy causes ... thanks so much to Katie McCorkindale and her team for this ... we are very honoured! The Clyde Auditorium has been tremendous to work with in the past. They helped andsupported KidsCharities through our first year and were always on hand for friendly advice!
It goes without saying that having the venue at no cost will add dramatically to the money we pull in for the charities next Spring.
We're off to a flier...thanks to our Hero of the Moment - The Clyde Auditorium
Kenny MacMillan, Managing Director of DP21 is our first "hero" October-November 2003
KidsCharities approached DP21 and asked if he would become involved with the printing of the Oktoberfest Souvenir Brochure. We didn't have much of a budget. Kenny offered to do the entire brochure free of charge. Not only that, he told us to try and sell as many adverts as possible ... all in full colour . He took us on an impressive tour of his production line using the very latest in print technology. We were impressed at the huge scale of the operation.... and at his willingness to help.
After pulling together various adverts we found we had a half page less than we thought for copy. Without a thought, Kenny reduced his own advert to a half page ... and produced the best brochure I've had in the 13 or so years I've been fundraising! He also printed and designed our tickets and the personalised KC Oktoberfest wine labels.
With his help, Oktoberfest raised over £10,000!
"Thanks Kenny! It's wonderful to work with someone who makes life easy!"
